Developing "Best Practices' for Virtual Participants at future REBarCamps

Anyone else watching this schedule on REBarCamp, hoping REBarCamp attendees update the schedule through the day? As REBarCamps are hosted around the country in 2009, my guess is that virtual participation will become more common. So I’ll volunteer to make some notes about best practices and recommendations for future events. Better still, can other virtual participants contribute their observations and requests for dream functionality for future events?

I am heading to NYC on Amtrak as I write this, and will attend the second half of REBarCamp in person. Hope that participating four hours online, and four hours in person will give insight into the needs and best practices of both kind of REBarCamp participants!

We need your ideas and observations, too! Should we share ideas for virtual participation on Facebook, on REBarCamp site, or on twitter using #REBCNY?  (Related post on REBarCampNY)

Thus far, BarCamps have been B2B event (business to business) events.  Want to brainstorm about producing a C2B2C (consumer to business to consumer) "Real Estate unConference?" in Boston?

Let's continue preliminary conversations begun at PodCamp Boston2 and eGovBarCamp at MIT's Media Lab.  Please email RealEstateCafe at Gmail dot com or call Bill Wendel at 617-661-4046.  Watch http://twitter.com/realestatecafe for updates on event in Boston.

Back to the Future:  The growing Consumer Revolution in Real Estate

Sixteen years after the original event in Boston, we're inviting Boston Globe readers, BostonNow readers, and others to help us plan a "unconference" for real estate consumers.  Everyone is invited to participate, but the event will focus primarily on money-saving B2C, C2C & P2P tools, tips, and web sites for homebuyers and sellers (for sale by owner, OpenMLS, fee-for-service business models, interactive mapping, etc.).  Presentations on other timely issues and industry reforms, such as the Real Estate Consumer Bill of Rights, real estate bubble, uncoupling real estate commisssions, cause marketing in real estate, are also welcome.  If you are not familar with the unconference movement, visit some of the links on BarCamp.  Here's the registration list for the last BarCamp in Boston, the recently complete PodCampBoston2, and a temporary registration list for the proposed real estate unconference in Boston (date to be announced):

FREE Registration (more details to come)

As idea starters, topics and panelists from the original Consumer Revolution in 1993 are shown below as well as links to selected real estate conferences.  What NEW topics would you like to see discussed, and who would you like to see participate or lead those discussions?  This real estate retrospective may help jump start your ideas, too.

The Consumer Revolution (back cover of pamphlet in 1993)

The real estate industry is at an historic turning point.  Changes are occuring in many sectors of the industry to inform, protect or empower home buyers, sellers, and owners.  Our conference and exhibit area will showcase these consumer-oriented innovations and explain the right of home buyers and sellers to be represented by their own real estate agent.  Whether you are a home buyer, home seller, or home owner, this conference will provide valuable information to save you money.
